NATGEO WILD | branding refresh
Over the summer of 2013, Loyalkaspar got awarded the task of refreshing the identity of the Nat Geo WILD channel.
During the pitch phase, I was in charge of exploring the animation language and I created the original stripe “activation” motion that was then used in all the other elements as the main trigger for the animation to unfold.
After winning the pitch, I switched over to focus on the 3D and even though I did my fair share of R&D, Animation, Shading, Rendering and Compositing, I was mostly in charge of supervising the entire workflow. It should be noted that given the short time-frame we had to complete the project, we actually bought almost all the 3D models on Turbosquid and only applied minor tweaks to them. The biggest chunk of work was in the texturing/shading, rigging and animation. All the 3D elements was rendered using Vray. All flocking simulations were done using MASH in Maya.
Along with designing the network's new identity for print and on-air, we created a series of comprehensive After Effects toolkits for our client to build their own customized tune-in and other on-air graphics.
Here's a little montage my friend Dennis Cheung (aka Daftkraft) made to showcase the full range of our work on the project :
