My friend Brian came to me with this motion design project for a documentary about Richard Holbrooke, great American diplomatic figure who died a couple years ago. Directed by his son David Holbrooke, the film focuses on his own quest to re-discover who really was his father and his legacy.
In addition to infographics content, I was mainly in charge of designing and animating the opening and ending titles for the film.
For the intro, I worked on recreating the front page of the diplomatic passport, complete with gold finishing and embossed lettering. For the end credits, we scanned the old passports from the man and recreated some of the stamps in high-definition so we could make those macro shots in 3d.
It’s quite amazing to see someone use his passport so extensively. Every single one we got a chance to look at was filled with all those incredible vintage design stamps, like a relic several centuries old.
This project was a really interesting graphic exploration and lesson in appreciating those.
BREAKDOWN
Here’s a little video I made to show the work that went into this project.
